Attendees will meet John Spinello, inventor of the classic board game Operation and have the opportunity to watch the documentary OPERATION: Operation the Power of Play
The Sarasota Gateway Hotels team is supporting Operation Gratitude as an in-kind sponsor and we look forward to seeing you on November 8th and 9th. Here are all the details!
The Central West Coast Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association (CWC-FPRA) is hosting “Operation Gratitude” on November 8-9th in honor of John Spinello, the inventor of the classic board game Operation.
Spinello’s classic American story is chronicled in OPERATION: Operation the Power of Play, a 28-minute documentary. After striking a raw deal to sell the patent to the game for $500 and forfeiting his rights to royalties, Spinello saw the game go on to sell 45 million copies. This moving film goes on to show how Spinello’s broken heart was mended after learning that the game he invented has touched many more people, in many more ways than he ever could have imagined. Spinello is now 82-years-old and although not bitter, his financial situation forced him to sell his dream home and he drives for a ride-sharing service.
The Sarasota events have been organized by CWC-FPRA members.
“As marketing and communications professionals, we are naturally drawn to good stories, especially ones that are inspiring,” said Kim Livengood, APR, CPRC, president of CWC-FPRA. “After learning of John’s situation, we just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to help this man who continues to bring joy to so many people.”
On Friday, November 8th from 6-9pm, attendees will enjoy a screening of OPERATION: Operation the Power of Play, craft cocktails, a silent auction, and other surprises. Limited VIP tickets for the Friday night event, which are $75 each, are available for purchase. The cost includes a reserved seat, two drink tickets and a signed copy of Operation. General admission tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at the door. This event is 21 and up. Cornerstone & Company will be on hand serving up craft cocktails and wood fire pizza for sale.
On Saturday, November 9th, families are encouraged to come play games and have their photo taken with Spinello from 10am – 3pm. Saturday is a free event; attendees may purchase signed copies of Operation and Deli Deli Sandwich Co will have food for sale.
Both events will take place at The Bazaar on Apricot and Lime, located at 821 Apricot Avenue, Sarasota.
A portion of money raised from this event will also benefit Family Network on Disabilities of Manasota (FND), a local non-profit organization that assists families of children with disabilities and special needs to go “From Heartache to Hope – One Family at a Time.”
